February 2009
Safle is pleased to announce that the recipient of the Safle Graduate Award 2009 is Alistair Owen from UWIC (University of Wales Institute Cardiff).

Owen’s practice is concerned with explorations of space through site-specific interventions and experimentation with materials. Taking his work into the public domain felt like a natural progression and the panel were impressed by his understanding and knowledge of this area of artistic practice. He demonstrated enthusiasm and commitment to becoming an artist post university and an inspiring and considered approach to his art.

We are really looking forward to seeing what Owen comes up with for this project and hope the opportunity will be an invaluable experience for his future as an artist.

The competition was strong and all short-listed artists are to be congratulated on their interview presentations. It was an extremely enjoyable day for the panel and encouraging to see so much talent emerging from colleges in Wales.

Alistair will begin the Safle Award project after completing his degree in Summer 2009. You can follow his progress here.
