‘Pollinium’, a new sculpture by the British artist Paul
Morrison.

metal cut out flower sculpture

Pollinium was commissioned by Safle for ISIS 3D development in Cardiff Bay on behalf of Taylor Wimpey. The 4 meter tall work, constructed from aluminum and steel, is based on a dandelion motif and is the artist’s first permanently sited public sculpture in the UK.

Drawing on plant imagery from popular and classical references, Morrison works in a wide range of mediums. He has gained widespread recognition around the world for his bold graphic landscape paintings, site-specific wall paintings, and his sculpture works which have featured in exhibitions and events around the world including Frieze Art Fair 2006, Bloomberg Space, London and The New Art Centre, Roche Park earlier this year.

Fusing cartoon, scientific and art historical material ranging from botanical illustrations and animated flowers to old master paintings, Morrison explores our notions of landscape and its representation.

Morrison’s landscapes are alien yet strangely familiar, and where a language of Disney animation cohabits with the reduced graphic language of the everyday employed in street signs, the Lettraset range of graphic design fonts and imagery, and computer software employed by architects and landscape architects.
