In September 2007 the Arts Council of Wales announced
their largest capital Lottery award to date for public
art.

The grant of £200k was for a community–based project in Bala, in rural Gwynedd, where community enterprise body Antur Penllyn have developed a £2.3m WEFO funded rural life centre – ‘Canolfan Cywain’. The new-build project by architect Huw Meredydd Owen, which opened to the public in April, integrates artworks boldly in the design of the scheme. The range of artworks arose from a Public Art Strategy which was developed by lead artists Howard Bowcott and Angharad Pearce Jones working with Cywaith Cymru . Artworks Wales. Commissions continue through summer 2008.
